Mindi Thompson, PhD, HSP
Director of Faculty Programs

University of Wisconsin-Madison

Mindi Thompson, PhD, HSP, is a Professor of Counseling Psychology at The University of Wisconsin-Madison and a licensed and registered Health Service Psychologist. At UW-Madison, Dr. Thompson is Co-Director of Center for Research on College-Workforce Transitions and a faculty affiliate of the Institute for Research on Poverty. She is the Academic Director of Faculty Programs and a Certified Workshop Facilitator and Coach for the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity. 

Applications of Dr. Thompson’s research agenda occur within two primary domains: (1) vocational and educational development and (2) mental health and psychotherapy. She attends to interpersonal and systemic factors (e.g., social class, experiences with oppression, unemployment) that contribute to mental health and career development among individuals from diverse and underrepresented groups. At CCWT, she is a co-PI on the College Internship Study (funded by the National Science Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) and directs Tuned in Labs (funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation).

Dr. Thompson is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association’s Society of Counseling Psychology. She was a recipient of the 2021 American Psychological Association’s Committee on Socioeconomic Status Leadership Award, the 2016 UW-Madison School of Education Excellence in Diversity Award, and the Society of Counseling Psychology’s 2016 Fritz and Linn Kuder Early Career Scientist/Practitioner Award. She was named the Best in Science Address Honoree by the Society of Counseling Psychology in 2016 for her contributions to scholarship on social class and vocational psychology. She enjoys spending time in laughter and conversation with friends and family, traveling, basking in nature’s beauty, and cultivating new experiences.

Anthony Ocampo, PhD
Director of Campus Workshops

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona

Anthony Ocampo, PhD is Professor of Sociology at Faculty Co-Director of the Office of Interdisciplinary Ethnic Studies Teaching & Scholarship at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Anthony has done over 50 NCFDD workshops with various Higher Ed institutions across a range of topics. He is the award-winning author of the books Brown and Gay in LA (NYU Press, 2022) and The Latinos of Asia: How Filipino Americans Break the Rules of Race (Stanford University Press 2016), which were featured on NPR, the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, NBC News, among others. Anthony has also published essays in GQ, BuzzFeed, Los Angeles Review of Books, Colorlines, and Catapult, and he recently appeared in the Netflix documentary “White Hot: The Rise and Fall of Abercrombie and Fitch.” Los Angeles born and bred, Anthony spends his free time binge watching dramedies and reality TV, loitering in indie bookstores, and playing with his chocolate rescue pup Schmidt.

Lisa Hanasono, PhD
Director of Training and Content

Bowling Green State University

Lisa Hanasono, PhD, is a professor in the School of Media and Communication and an affiliated faculty member of the American Culture Studies Program and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies Program at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). Her research focuses on faculty development, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Prior to becoming the NCFDD’s Academic Director of Training and Content, as well as NCFDD Campus Workshop Facilitator and Faculty Success Program Coach, she dedicated over 10 years to developing and delivering professional development workshops in higher education. She has published numerous journal articles and book chapters, and she is a Co-PI of a nearly one million dollar NSF ADVANCE grant that examines how inclusive leadership, allyship, and institutional change can reduce social biases, increase inclusivity, and support the career advancement of women faculty and faculty of color in STEM. In addition to her work with the NCFDD and BGSU, Lisa enjoys spending quality time with her partner and kids, traveling, going to Broadway musicals, and horseback riding.

Joy Gaston Gayles, PhD
Professor, Education

North Carolina State University

Joy Gaston Gayles, Ph.D., is a professor of higher education at North Carolina State University. She has established an international reputation for her research on intercollegiate athletics in higher education. Dr. Gayles is well known for her research on women and underrepresented people of color in STEM fields. In 2022, DIVERSE magazine named Dr. Gayles one of 25 influential women leading higher education. In addition, she has published more than 50 refereed articles and book chapters on issues of diversity and equity in postsecondary education. Dr. Gayles participated in NCFDD’s Faculty Success Program in 2014 and now serves as a faculty success coach and campus workshop facilitator. She has coached over 100 faculty participants through the FSP program and has facilitated over five dozen campus workshops. Dr. Gayles loves to travel and make memories with her teenagers. As a former student-athlete, she is a sports and exercise enthusiast.

Rosemarie A. Roberts, PhD
Professor, Dance

Connecticut College

Rosemarie A. Roberts, PhD, Dayton Professor of Dance at Connecticut College, holds an endowed professorship in the interdisciplinary study of the arts.  Her scholarship and creative projects spans the areas of dance, social inequality, social group and power relations, epistemology, pedagogy, qualitative research methods, and performance. Dr. Roberts has published more than twenty articles and book chapters in peer-reviewed journals and books, co-authored a book and authored a second book project about the relationship among hip hop dance, racialized bodies, knowledge, and power. A leader in curricular innovation, Dr. Roberts has directed several curricular programs.

In 2013, Roberts joined NCFDD as an FSP Group Coach and Laser Coach after her transformative experience in the Faculty Success Program in 2011. She’s also a campus workshop facilitator. Passionate about having a life of mind and body, inside and outside of the academy, Dr. Roberts loves to travel, cook, dance, stay fit and hang out with her awesome kid.

Erin Furtak, PhD
Professor, Education

University of Colorado at Boulder

Erin Marie Furtak, PhD, is a professor of STEM Education in the School of Education at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She studies how classroom assessment can promote more equitable science learning for K-12 students and how teachers learn through the process of collaborative design of formative assessments. She was awarded the Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in 2011. Prof. Furtak served as Associate Dean of Faculty before refocusing her efforts on completing her 5th and 6th books, both expected in 2023. She has two young kids, an energetic dog, and is a lover of the outdoors.

Naomi Levy, PhD
Associate Professor, Political Science

Santa Clara University

Naomi Levy, PhD, is Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of the Office of Student Fellowships at Santa Clara University, a private institution that equally emphasizes both aspects of the “teacher-scholar model.” She specializes in identity politics and is particularly interested in the ways in which individuals’ understandings of their various political identities affect inter-group dynamics, with a focus on post-conflict societies. Her work has been funded by the Minerva Initiative, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, and the American Council of Learned Societies. In addition to her scholarly interests, she loves dancing, rock climbing, river rafting, knitting, and, in collaboration with her spouse, is joyfully raising two kids. Naomi transformed her relationship to her work through her participation in the Faculty Success Program in 2012 and Post-Tenure Pathfinders in 2016 and has served as a small group coach with NCFDD since 2015.

Carlita Favero, PhD
Professor, Biology and Neuroscience

Ursinus College

Carlita Favero, PhD, is a Professor of Biology and Neuroscience at Ursinus College, an exclusively undergraduate liberal arts institution with about 1600 students. She has developed courses on the FUNdamentals of Neuroscience, Developmental Neurobiology, and Glial Cell Biology. Her scholarly work investigates the consequences of alcohol exposure on brain wiring and behavior during embryonic brain development, a field she moved into during her first year on the tenure track. Carlita is striving to live a refined sugar and chemically processed food-free life and enjoys sleeping 8 hours a night, baking desserts, and relaxing at home with her wonderful husband of 19 years and their two lovely daughters (15 and almost 13).

Rachel McLaren, PhD
Associate Professor, Communication Studies

The University of Iowa

Rachel McLaren, PhD, is a professor at the University of Iowa in the Department of Communication Studies. Her social-scientific research focuses on how people talk about and make sense of significant experiences in their relationships, including instances of conflict, transgressions, and hurt feelings. She participated in the Faculty Success Program in 2012, which transformed her connection to her work and writing, allowing her to feel less stressed and resulting in her earning tenure. She is a senior head coach for the faculty success program as well as a workshop facilitator. In her downtime, Rachel enjoys hosting friends with her husband and three children, teaching group fitness classes, and dabbling in various creative hobbies, including knitting and sewing.

Angelique Davis, JD
Professor, Political Science

Seattle University

Angelique M. Davis is a Professor of Political Science and African and African American Studies at Seattle University. Her research concentrates on racial gaslighting, apologies and reparations, the socio-legal construction of race, the political representation of nonwhite Americans, and the reinvention of white supremacy in the twenty-first century. Her published articles are in several journals, including the Journal of Black Studies, The Black Scholar, Berkeley La Raza Law Journal, and Studies in Law, Politics, and Society. She published a book chapter, Political Blackness: A Sociopolitical Construction of Blackness Post-Loving v. Virginia, in “Loving in a ‘Post–Racial’ World: New Legal Approaches to Interracial Marriages and Relationships” (Cambridge University Press, 2012). She published a co-authored article with Rose Ernst titled “Racial Gaslighting,” in Politics, Groups, and Identities. She is in the process of writing a book titled “No Human Involved: Three-Fifths Justice in the United States.” She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Washington in 1999. She served as a federal law clerk and subsequently practiced law until she joined the faculty at Seattle University in 2005. In addition to her academic pursuits, Professor Davis serves as a Commissioner on the Seattle Civil Service Commission, owns Exhale Academic Writing Retreats, and is a coach and campus workshop facilitator for the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD).

Ndidiamaka Amutah-Onukagha, PhD
Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Tufts University School of Medicine

Ndidiamaka N. Amutah-Onukagha, PhD is the Julia A. Okoro Professor of Black Maternal Health and the inaugural Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Tufts University School of Medicine in the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine. She is a Faculty Success Program Coach and a certified Campus Workshop Facilitator for the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity. Her current research interests include maternal health inequities, reproductive health, and HIV/AIDS as experienced by Black women.  A well-published author, Dr. Amutah-Onukagha’s research has been presented in over 65 manuscripts, 6 book chapters, a best-selling book on Amazon, and a textbook on culturally responsive evaluation. Her research has also been featured across a series of platforms, including, The Lancet, TedX, USA Today, and most recently broadcasted on MSNBC. She also serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Women’s Health Issues. Currently, Dr. Amutah-Onukagha is the Principal Investigator of two multi-year studies on maternal mortality and morbidity, an R01 funded by National Institutes of Health and an interdisciplinary grant on health equity funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Dr. Ndidiamaka Amutah-Onukagha was an honoree of the 2020 Top 40 under 40 Minority Leaders in Healthcare, as presented by the National Minority Quality Forum. She is a member of the MA-COVID-19 Maternal Equity Coalition, a board member for the Neighborhood Birth Center in Boston, and a former board member of the National Women’s Health Network in Washington, D.C. In 2019, she was honored with the American Public Health Association’s Maternal and Child Health Section’s Young Professional of the Year Award. She currently serves as co-chair of the section’s Perinatal and Women’s Health Committee.

Dr. Amutah-Onukagha received her Master of Public Health from The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services before completing her Ph.D. in Public Health from the University of Maryland. She also completed the Kellogg Health Scholars postdoctoral fellowship with an emphasis on community based participatory research and health disparities.

Pamela Yeh
Associate Professor, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology

University of California, Los Angeles

Pamela is an Associate Professor at UCLA in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. She conducts her research on how stressors interact to affect the evolution of species, focusing on the evolution of birds in urban environments and the evolution of drug-resistant bacteria in urban and agricultural areas. She first participated in the Faculty Success Program in 2019 which completely transformed her work and home life. In addition to work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son, dancing, doing pilates, and playing pickleball.

Elizabeth S. Parks
Faculty, Journalism & Media Communication

University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Elizabeth S. Parks is an engaged scholar and educator with two decades of academic and non-profit experience related to listening and dialogue, collaboration and inclusion, leadership and identity. As a consultant, coach and facilitator, Parks creates spaces of learning related to relational interactions, cultural diversity and professional life, and engagement with strategic initiatives that study and promote workplace and community well-being. Her work focuses on how we all might listen and dialogue in creative and spacious ways, focusing on the communication and collaboration challenges found in Higher Education and community care contexts.

With advanced degrees in Communication (PhD/MA, University of Washington) and Deaf Studies: Cultural Studies (MA, Gallaudet University), her scholarship is grounded in the belief that our individual, relational, and organizational lives are enriched by bravely creating hospitable spaces of dialogue across difference. She is an Associate Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation, has worked extensively as administration, faculty, staff and consultant in a variety of public and private higher education and non-profit contexts, given hundreds of professional presentations around the world, and researched, written and published over 50 peer-reviewed academic articles and two books, including “Listening: The Key Concepts” (2025) and “The Ethics of Listening: Creating Space for Sustainable Dialogue” (2018).

Kerry Ann Rockquemore
Founder

Kerry Ann Rockquemore, PhD, is the founder of NCFDD. Dr. Rockquemore left her tenured professorship in 2010 to create the NCFDD.

Geoff Watson
CEO

Geoff Watson is a mission-oriented leader in education innovation and technology. As President of the Minerva Project, Geoff grew Minerva’s transformational educational model globally. Previously, Watson was SVP at Guild, where he led the buildout of Guild’s academic partner network. He also led venture incubation at Entangled, where he helped launch multiple new edtech companies, including ReUp and Pathstream. Earlier in his career, he was President of Intrax, a cultural exchange company serving over 50,000 students annually from 80+ countries. He was instrumental in launching innovative, State Department-sponsored programs, including the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study program for Muslim youth. He’s written and spoken internationally on the future of AI and higher ed.  He holds an MBA from Wharton and B.A. from Dartmouth College.

Cassandra Pettiford
Senior Manager | Membership Engagement

Cassandra Pettiford supports NCFDD institutional partnerships and provides administrative support for institutional members. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia and a Master of Arts from UCLA. She brings years of experience in university administration, organizational management, and administrative oversight. Allison Van Buren
Director | Membership and Customer Support

Allison Van Buren manages incoming NCFDD member and nonmember inquiries and various NCFDD communications. Eric Johnston

Eric Johnston manages the back-end functions of the NCFDD, including member accounts, software updates, and website operation. Dianne Rich

Therese Licker

Alyssa Garlington
Manager | Data & Informations Systems

Alyssa Garlington supports the NCFDD by tracking, verifying, organizing, and disseminating data from the NCFDD’s information systems. She earned a B.A. in English Language and Literature from Eastern Michigan University and a Master’s in Information Science from Wayne State University. Naoko Vena
Senior Assistant | Admin & Operations

Naoko Vena acts as a support system across the NCFDD and works with all teams to ensure accurate registration, invoicing, and payments. She graduated from the University of Ibaraki in Japan with a Bachelor’s Degree in Japanese Language and Literature with a teaching license. Bridget Kinard
Financial Accountant

Bridget Kinard is the Financial Accountant for NCFDD. Bridget has lead teams in various areas of corporate accounting in service and manufacturing industries and supports accounts payable, accounts receivable a well as other accounting responsibilities. Inesa Preciado
Manager, Strategic Partnerships | Marketing

Inesa is a Marketing Manager specializing in Strategic Partnerships, assisting in executing multi-channel marketing campaigns to cultivate relationships with institutional partners. She also manages a portfolio of partnerships and oversees the planning and execution of industry events to foster connections and drive growth. Inesa builds strong, mutually beneficial partnerships and ensures client satisfaction through effective communication and support. Amy Perumalil
Senior Coordinator | Faculty Programs

Amy Perumalil supports operations for the Faculty Success Program – including processing registrations, collecting intake forms, assisting with participant onboarding, and the general back-end administration of each program session. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Oakland University and a Master of Arts in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Wayne State University. Natalie Fortier
Assistant Financial Controller

Mikala Redgate
Manager | Membership and Customer Support

Mikala Redgate manages incoming NCFDD member and nonmember inquiries as well as various NCFDD communications. She collaborates with other team members to offer both general and specific support, and works to coordinate NCFDD Campus Workshops. Tricia Russ

Tricia Russ collaborates with the NCFDD teams to broadly share the mission of the NCFDD across higher education. Pete Nowka
New Partnerships Director | Partnership Development & Success

Pete Nowka serves the NCFDD team as a National Partnership Executive. He has spent decades supporting system and institutional leaders across the higher education community. His passion for advancing solutions that support faculty and student success has guided his professional career and is what ultimately led him to the NCFDD. Frank Sesso
Partnerships Success Director | Partnership Development & Success

Frank Sesso, Partnership Success Director at NCFDD, brings over 25 years of higher education experience. A former associate professor, Frank has expertise in distance education, interdisciplinary studies curriculum development, and fostering collaborative learning communities at community colleges and universities. Driven by a passion for initiatives promoting faculty success, Frank has joined NCFDD. Christina Zinkel

Kim Cotzias

Megan Sherwood
Senior Manager, Demand Generation | Marketing
